So, I have my grandmother's iphone which is a 3G from Switzerland, and have brought it to my home country. It was working very well for a while, and now after she got a new one, I want to give this one to my grandfather. I reset the content and info so that I wouldn't need to individually delete the contacts and now it won't go past the apple logo. I think I have to restore but I have several problems with that.
1. Since this is an old phone, the new software runs slower on it. (So I've heard from many others)
2. Upgrading it will force it to be locked to the Switzerland carrier, which we clearly can't use.
Anything I can do to bring this phone back to the way it was?
Iphone 3 G can only be upgraded to 4.2 i think.
to have the phone unlock you will need to contact the switzerland carrier and see if they offer unlocking.

The iPhone 3G cannot run "new software." It can only run iOS 4.2.1, not 4.3, not 5.
2. Upgrading it will force it to be locked to the Switzerland carrier, which we clearly can't use.
Then your grandmother was using a hacked phone.
1. The first part was helpful, albeit a bit condescending.
2nd part.
We got this phone before anyone heard of factory unlocks. Don't be so judgemental, had you been in the same situation, I'm sure you'd have done the same thing.
Nope. I have a strict no-hack policy. And, as a matter of fact, so does this forum: you won't find help for hacked phones here. See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!
