I was selling my old 3g, the guy came to get it and it went straight to recovery so I tried to restore it, no go. I have tried both 4.1 and 4.2 both in recovery and DFU. I have tried using my MBP and a Windows laptop both with the newest version of iTunes and every time I am getting hit with error 40 Any help would be great because now I still have the iPhone 3g, which isnt working, lost the money to from the sale AND I am stuck using my old iPhone 2g. Talk about slow with no 3g...Please help!

Error 40 indicates a hardware issue with your device. See this Apple support article:
