Passcode Failed iPhone 3G

Ive been using the same passcode for several months now (so I know that I am putting in the correct passcode). Its set to ask for it after 4 hours of inactivity. Last night, I updated 4 apps before going to sleep. Now, this morning my passcode is not being accepted and I am getting locked out. I have tried restarting and hard restarting, but no luck.
How can this be fixed without doing a back-up reinstall? What would cause the valid passcode to no longer to be valid (the updated apps)?

Can someone please guide me on how an audio file from the iTunes library can be assigned to create custom SMS alerts, Alarm tones and Ringtones? I cant imagine Apple wouldve overlooked such a dead basic feature, yet it seems to be an impossibility?

You can use Google or search here, or go to eHow and learn how to make custom ringtones from music. You can then use these for ringtones or alarms. You cannot create custom SMS alerts or email alerts.
Also, if you do a search about it, you can find lots of posts with just about every conceivable opinion about this, so there is no reason to add to it here. Tell Apple that youd like to have the feature:

Thank you for taking the time to respond. The link to Apple feedback was useful, though sadly the instructions I extracted from e-how were not. I was advised to either buy ringtones or follow a convoluted procedure that resulted in two of my favorite personal recordings being permanently edited down to useless 30 second m4r files. I still have no custom tones to show for it all.

Ancient wisdom says never work on the only copy of the file you have. In future make a copy and experiment safely with that.

Im afraid that you cannot assign custom sounds to SMS, email or other alert tones. coming from a Blackberry background I was surprised to find this was not possible. But it isnt and you need a degree in computer science to assign a customer ring tone.

Unable to update iphone sw from 3.1 to latest

Im trying to download the new iPhone software that but every time I try and do it, it just gets locked on backing up my iphone and the little green bar moves about 3% in 3 hours.
Is this is a common error that other people have found? Is there a solution?
Current s/w version is 3.1 and itune ver is 9

Dont want to beat a proverbial dead horse, but what about making the IPhone 4 a better receiver of calls? My 3Gs was the BEST phone I ever owned. I rarely had a dropped call, I was able to make and receive calls in places where no phone I had owned previously could. When I read that this phone had the best reception of any IPhone (according to Apple) I went and made the switch. Yes, I read many posts where folks say just that, great phone. I am on IPhone 4 number three and all have been plagued with reception issues, thought the first two were worse than this one. I go to the same locations every day and the 3Gs sent and received calls remarkably better. Just sayin.....

Have you got some evidence for that? Apple have not announced anything and they do not normally release new iPhone modesl in January. Steve Jobs noted in his press conference on this issue that reception quality is generall better than on previous models, which does not suggest that Apple are in a rush to get new hardware out the door.
Unless you have something to back this up, youre just misdirecting a fellow user who has a problem

I have and evidence for that: they are constantly improving their products and, of course, they cant keep selling a faulty one for so long... Look at the iPod shuffle introduced yesterday, when they are mistaken they have to back down...

I hardly think this constitutes as evidence that a new model will be coming out in January. To the OP - if youre within your cooling off period Id suggest returning the phone for a refund. If youve already had 3 handsets its very unlikely that all three have been faulty.

I did not say a new model, it will probably look exactly as the present iPhone 4 and have the same name or 4 GS, but it will have no reception issues nor proximity sensor issues nor this excessive fragility...

Despues de comprobar los gravísimos problemas de Cobertura de Que Tenia mi nuevo iPhone4 , Solicite- ilusa de mi -el Modelo BELKIN SHIELD MICRA , Con La Esperanza Que , como dice apple, se solucionaran Los Problemas . JA , JA , JA . Me parece indignante Que Una Compañía Cómo está , Lance un Producto Como Este, al Precio al que lo lanza, con unas carencias tan brutales. ¿ QUE SE SUPONE QUE HEMOS DE HACER ? . Estoy totalmente decepcionada con elAparato, pues No hace otra cosa que darme problemas. ¿QUIEN PRESUME DE iPHONE4? ¡¡¡¡¡¡ ILUSOS !!!!! y que nos tengamos que aguantar con ello. Y que nos digan que con una fundita de plástico se solucionarán los problemas. Que nos manden la fundita y nos creamos que va a funcionar. Para esto se han invertido 100 millones de dolares? Estais de guasa?. La radio de cualquiera de nuestros abuelos mejoraba la recepción cuando poníamos la mano sobre la antena. Correr, daos prisa y compartir esta idea con los ingenieros estos que han invertido tantas y tantas horas diseñando esta auténtica basura de antena. Espero que nos deis una solución pronto. Desde luego, NO ACONSEJO A NADIE que, a día de hoy, se gaste 600€ en este aparato.

Okay.. Youre haivng reception problems with a bunch of other things... and you have a belkin sheild. ....
Okay, from what Ive gathered from NO knowledge of spanish, youre ****** at apple for releasing a phone with such a large problem like the death grip (which is also present on many other phones).
Well, theres nothing we can do about what apple releases or not, if you dont like what they sell, then you shouldnt buy it. The death grip slipped past apple when it was released and they tried to release a quick fix with a free case. At least they did something.

This guide will teach you how to unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS running 3.0 firmware using ultrasn0w.



  • Step 1
    I strongly recommend you backup your iPhone via iTunes BEFORE you begin this guide.

  • Step 2

    Upgraded your iphone 3G/3GS to 3.0 firmware via iTunes, jailbreak the iphone using redsn0w, install cydia or icy.


  • Step 3

    After your iPhone is jailbroken and installled either cydia or icy, run cydia or icy, add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to cydia or icy. Search for “ultrasn0w” and install it. Reboot your iPhone. Your iPhone is unlocked and you are done.
