As Apple promised in early October, the company has posted an updated Software Developer Kit (iPhone SDK) Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) which allows iPhone application developers to more openly discuss their development plans. In order to facilitate such discussion, Apple has also opened a forum especially for iPhone developers.

I am currently in Japan and would like to buy an iPhone. However they come locked to SoftBank carrier and in a year I will be moving to the U.S.A.. At the bottom of the page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 it says to call the designated carrier in specified country for authorized unlocking. However when I called ATT they told me that they would not be able to unlock the phone. I know that in Hong Kong they sell unlocked phones but I would rather not have to fly there just to purchase a phone to bring back to Japan. Does anyone know the truth? Are the iPhones able to legally be unlocked so not to void apples support.

It would be up to Softbank Japan to unlock the phone for you.
A caveat to buying a phone in another country. If you buy the HK phone and have any problems with it, youll need to get it back to HK for service.

Since the iPhone is sold in Japan as carrier locked with Softbank, as already provided this would be up to Softbank to unlock an iPhone that was purchased from Softbank or from Apple in Japan. You need to contact Softbank about this.
If you want an iPhone now and Softbank will not unlock the iPhone, I would plan on selling your iPhone in Japan before returning to the U.S. and use the proceeds to purchase another iPhone from Apple or AT&T in the U.S.

I just called the Hong Kong apple help desk to find out where a store is. As it turns out, there are no apple stores there, only authrorized dealers. Therefore you have to sign up with a service provider when purchasing the iPhone at the physical store. You can order the unlocked iPhone through the on-line store, however you need to ship it to a Hong Kong address. Apple makes this so difficult for world travelers. Ugh.

Alguien debe poder entenderlas. Después de todo, Apple está en California.

Page 105 of the manual:
You see a wallpaper background picture when you unlock iPhone. You can select one
of the images that came with iPhone, or use a photo you’ve synced to iPhone from
your computer.

Hey guys, just have a couple questions concerning the iphone 3g
Thinking about getting, two questions?
Ive heard some negative press about the actual phone feature ironically. Has the call drop issue been resolved, or is that issue mainly due to your service area now?
Also, does the phone have a tendency to slow down massively if it gets close to capacity?
My old ipods have never really worked correctly in that regard.
Little skeptical b/c of these issues, any advice is appreciated.

I didnt have a problem with dropped calls where I live (which isnt in a major metropolitan area) prior to firmware update 2.1, and I dont have problems with it now.
As with a computers drive, if you fill the iPhones storage to completely full or nearly full, you will probably experience some problems.

We have two 3G iPhones and have not had any issues with dropped calls. My friend lives in an area with weak ATT reception and hell lose the signal in certain spots in his house but this can happen with any phone in a weak signal area.

Why you are thinking of buying 3G phone?
if you run a business and you need to access your emails on the go?
while talking on the phone? and while updating your website and you want to talk to your IT department? do online trading?
do you wanot make a multimedia call? (does ATT support this feature?) ive lived in Bahrain and that was one the first country to have 3G cellular network up and running around 5 years ago)
if these are not your primary usage then dont expect anything from a 3G phone as its just a 2 radio device which drains battery quick and you are okay with that too go ahead and buy iPhone 3G what i hate is people who dont understand what a 3G phone can do and what are its limitation come here or for that matter on any forum and whine whine whine till i feel like brk my leg by kicking their butt so hard

If youre looking for a phone that consolidates email, web browsing, an iPod, the ability to watch video and download apps, the iPhone does a very good job. If youre heavily into MMS then youll either have to adjust to using email or select a different phone.
