Hi have an iPhone 4 - my iMessage is set to recieve at both my mobile number and email address.
My girlfriend has an iPhone 4s and iPad 2. Her iMessage on the iphone is set to recieve at her mobile number and email. Her iPad is just set to recieve at the same email address as the iPhone - you can't add the number i don't think?
The issue I have is that if she messages me from her iPhone I recieve it, we can have a conversation no problem. BUT if she then sends me an iMessage from her iPad I recieve it as another contact - her name will appear twice in my message inbox. Leaving me with two conversations - one from her iPhone one from her iPad. The only way I can tell which is which as the iPhone message history has a "call" button at the top, iPad doesn't.
I thought the entire conversation would appear in just one conversation over iMessage not two? Is this how iMessage is suppossed to work? What if i contact someone who has multiple devices, would i have the contact in my message inbox appear for each device they message me from for example?
She is only on my "contacts" once with all email address, numbers etc.
Any thoughts?
Is here name spelled the same on her devices?
For example, does she use Kate on one device and Katherine on another?
Everything needs to be the same.
I have 2 iphone, 1 ipad and 1 macbook and all share imessage fine.....so it will work......
The name is the same on both. Surely it's not device name though, they are both logged in via iCloud. There's only one contact on my phone with all the contact details (email, mob no.) however it splits iMessages and SMS into 2 separate threads which is very frustrating
There is only 1 contact on my iphone for her - this includes all her emails / numbers etc.
I checked the settings on her iphone and icloud it is set to recieve at two addresses on her mobile (her number and icloud email) and 1 address on her ipad (the same icloud email).
There is no seamless link as proposed by Apple's adverts. If she sends me a message from her ipad it only inlcudes the ipad messages. Same from her phone which will be a mix of imessage and standard SMS.
Then when i look at my messages inbox i can see her name in it twice 1 string of conversations from her iphone the other from her ipad.
If i were to create a new message and i select her icloud address rather than the number for imessage it will be recieved on both devices. But if she responds on the iphone the conversation will be iphone to iphone only (even if it is still imessage). If she then sends me a message on ipad it starts a new thread in my inbox leaving me with 2!
