If I remove camera from my iPhone 4S will it still work same

I had an accident the other day and my iPhone 4s suffered some physical damage (screen shattered). It still works fine, but when I use it or when it's charging it gets extremely hot where the camera is located and the battery drains WAY faster than it should (before accident it would last two days, now it hardly lasts a few hours). I also discovered the camera no longer works so I'm guessing that is the source of the problem. So I'm wondering if I were to take the camera out of my iPhone and put it back together everything else normal would it still continue to work fine just without the camera?
