Hey Guys I purchased an Iphone 4 via ebay " it did say att unlocked from ebay in August last year " and it was not
i did try contacting ATT after the new anouncement of unlocking Iphones but their reply is sorry we cant assist you because:
no 1 youre from South Africa and dont have an att number.
secondly you dont have the accountholders social security number
and 3rdly you are not the original acount older
I purchased this phone legaly and can send everyone proof of my payment
is there any other process i can follow with apple in South Africa if possable to get this phone accesable on my home network ?
AT&T did not start unlockiung iphones until this week.
There is nothing you can do. ONLY AT&T can unlock it.
Sell it an buy an officially unlocked iphone from an official reseller.
**** all i can do sad to say is revert to the 3rd party geevy sims ect doesnt look like apple is willing to assist outside south africa ... i work for a big media company ( a newspaper) maybe i should start a negative publicity thing in South africa Please dont buy apple !!!
This has nothing to do with Apple. Manufactures don't lock phones, CARRIERS do. Do you think your inability to use your AT&T locked phone now benefits Apple in any way?
Apple has NOTHING to do with the decision to lock or unlock an iphone, just like any other manufacturer of phones.
ONLY the carrier can make this decision.
No idea why you think this is Apples decision.
You bought an iphone from e-bay. This is the risk you take.
You are blaming the wrong people here. The person who lied to you about what you were buying is at fault.
Still not sure at all how you have it in your head that Apple has anything to do with this.
Apple must have alternative avenues off resolving this as ATT refuses to help !!
Well i can blame ebay but they not the brand or the product i purchased they were just the sales channel in a way!
It is unfortunate but im not the only person in this position !!
My view the manufacturer must take responsibility for their product/ brand name and not let a carrier tell them how to opperate their product it boils down to " a bad business practice" so the only thing i can do cut my losses but give the people out there my opinion and the awareness that apple doesn't give proper support channels.. I hope bad publicity would make them look at alternative ways off suporting their product !
