I have begged and pleaded and no one will answer unless I pay them.  I just want to know what to do.  My IPhone 3G will not complete the update.  It says "backing up Bryn's IPhone". The phone says SYNC in Progress.  It gets to half an inch before the end and stops.  I have done it about 20 times with the same result.  I let it stay for 24 HRS at one time.  Same result, still stuck and still 3.0 obviously as I have to stop to be able to use my phone. Doesn't even get to the update.  The photos no longer show up when I take them, says 1,150 but only 832 show up.  I also lost all my APPS, paid and free.  They still show on phone but nothing in them.   ATT says not them why service is bad, it's a phone problem. May I have suggestions or help re what to do?  Thanks, Bryn

Is it stopping while you are downloading the update or after it has downloaded the update and is installing it? Have you tried a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store?

Thank you for answering.  It doesn't even get to the update.  Just goes to " backing up IPhone". Green bar goes for about 4 hrs then STOPS half inch bfore end. I guess you're saying a trip to Apple Store is necessary.  Hoped to avoid that.

When was the last time you backed up this iPhone before now?

What kind of computer are you using?

Purchased in 2009.  backed up on ITunes maybe twice on old computer.  New computer purchased Jan 2012.  Dell.  This was 1st back up and first time updating at all.

That may be the problem, it may be running into an issue with the backup. You can try updating without the backup if you have nothing on the phone you have to keep. Are you far from an Apple Store?
