I set up my user Id on my Iphone 2 years ago but 12 months ago I changed ISP and I cannot change the old user ID on my Iphone to my new email address and cannot remember the old password. I have tried Settings>Store but only the new email address appears. If I try updates on my apps it asks for my old Id password and that is where I get stuck, If I go to appleid.apple com it also only tells me that I have only the new user ID. This problem seems to be within the Iphone software, do I have to do a backup and restore to factory defaults and if so are there any problems I may incur?

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them originally.  You will always be asked for the password for this ID when updating them, regardless of what Apple ID you are using currently (in Settings>Store>Apple ID).  This can't be changed.  All you can do to stop this is to delete these apps from your phone so they don't try to update.
