Hey everyone,
I'm having difficulty trying to get past the Activation Screen on an iPhone 4 GSM.
I'm doing it for a friend, and this is the first time I'm having this issue.
He said he's got it from Japan. He wants to use it in the US.
I don't really need help with unlocking or anything along those lines.. I just need help with getting past the Activation Screen so that I'm able to use the phone and do the things necessary to get it working with whatever carrier.
I've tried using an AT&T SIM card that came with my iPhone, but it's not recognized nor supported.
I also have a GEVEY SIM, but it's not working either. My main issue is getting to the Home Screen.
Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated,
Thank you.
Sounds like it's locked to a different carrier than AT&T. You will need to insert a sim card from the carrier the phone was locked to in order to activate it. And Gevey sim cards can't be discussed here as it is against the Terms of Use and they are considered illegal in most countries.
Thanks for pointing out about the Gevey SIM, I shall refrain from talking about it.
Yes, I figured I may need to get a hold of a SIM from Japan, but it would be difficult to.
I was hoping someone would know a work-around for getting past that screen.
I know that in the US, you don't need to activate iPhone prior to using it (as an iPod, etc).
Seems like these international iPhones requires activation prior to using it for anything, unfortunately.

Actually that's not correct. You have to activate and iPhone anywhere in the world before you can do anything with it, including the US. The sim card itself need not be activated, but it must be valid & present, and if the phone is carrier locked, it must be a sim card from that carrier.
