My new iPhone will not sync with my desktop iTunes. After connecting it to computer, iPhone is recognized but then iTunes freezes while it's supposedly backing up the phone to the computer. Left it there for 4 hours and backup never progressed. Never any problems with my iPod, but this is maddening. Need to disable backup or find solution. Please help.

yes I do. just downloaded 10.6.1.7 a couple days ago.

Maybe your previous backup is corrupted.

Go to iTunes > Preferences... > Devices tab > Delete your backup.

After that, right click on your iPhone's name and choose backup.
