How tethering service now iPhone 4

How is tethering now please?! Is it much slower that using the internet on the iphone 4?! OR is it about the same when you tether your computer to it?! I have been paying for the unlimited data plan since the beginning and use a WAY way way under 2GBs a month now ... so Im thinking a WIFI ipad 2 with my iphone 4 is the way to go *with hotspot!!! Thoughts please?!

I should also let it be known that I had unlimited 3g on the ipad 1 which was also barely used as I am more than likely somewhere always near wifi country!

Tethering is generally pretty fast for surfing the net and things like that.
