how i transfer everything from old iphone 3gs to new iphone 4

I've got a new iphone 4 to replace my 3gs. Yay!

However, all my apps, but only some of my contacts have been carried across to my new iphone 4. And none of my photos or music.

A friend did it successfully when they upgraded their phone so I let them have a go on mine.

They thought it was done automatically by itunes, but this doesn't seem to have happened as only some contacts have been copied.

Please help!

I'm using windows xp, the latest iphone software (on the 3gs and 4) and latest itunes software.

See If Your Friend Has A Newer Ver. Of iTunes If He Doesn't See If Your Up To Date Anyway If That Doesn't Work

Try And Reinstall iTunes

Thanks all.

I plugged both phones in at the same time, did a full sync on the old one then disconnected it.

Then a full sync on the new one and it's all fixed. I checked the box to allow duplicates, but I'd rather have duplicates than some contacts missing.
