When I try to send a text to my husband's ipod, he does not get one.   It appears in email only.   He can send me a text sending to my phone number.   We use the same email address and the same itunes account.   It also appears that we have the same Apple ID.    We have the same issue if we try Facetime.   He can Facetime me at my phone number but I am unable to Facetime him.    Any solutions?

Have him set up a separate email address under Settings > Messages > Receive At. Then send to that address. Same can be done for Settings > FaceTime.

I believe it has to do with you both having the same Apple ID. Check this support document about Messages http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755 and see if that helps you. This one http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3367 is regarding Facetime.
