How I Get iPhone Calendar Events onto Google Calendar

I have given up syncing my iPhone calendar to MS Outlook.  There have been too many inconsistencies and too few fixes.  What I need is to be able to enter new events on my iPhone native calendar app and sync them to Google calendar on my PC.  In a nutshell, I want Google calendar on my PC to be the backup for my phone.  Just to reiterate - there is nothing on my Google calendar, it's all on my phone.  I already have gmail set up on the phone with no problems.  I don't use push at all, ever.  I've already spent hours looking and haven't found the answer yet.

10 points to anyone who can tell me how to do this successfully and 5 points to anyone who can convince me that it can't be done and I should stop wasting my time.  Also, 10 points to anyone who can suggest another way of backing up my iPhone calendar to my PC without spending more than $2.
