As I'm sure all of you know, Imessage and Facetime seem not to work with new IOS 5 updates. I can't seem to understand why, but it seems as if pre-paid users of the Iphone are the people whom are suffering the most. If your anything like me, your able to send imessages and use facetime via e-mail, but that kind of defeats the purpose of having an IPHONE...... After countless hours of research and trying little stupid things in settings, I have found my solution. Sadly, this does require a credit card, as well as a purchase of an application (any 99 cent app you want). I personally hate this fact, however it did work for me. The steps I took are simple and are as follows.
1. Go to settings, and select your store tab
2. Tap your apple id and select "view appleid"
3. Edit your payment info by adding a credit card (if you already have one simply add a new one and delete that one)
4. Go to the app store and select ANY 99 cent purchase.
5. voi la, my imessage and facetime activated within a matter of seconds after purchasing asphault 6- adrenaline rush (or something like that)
I am using Rogers pre-paid canada and this method worked for me even using a United States apple id. Another FYI is that it never hurts to have about $5 in your pre-paid account at all times.
Hopefully this worked for some people, and I'm sorry if your still struggling to get your phone # to work.

Uh, I don't know that at all. They both work fine for me with iOS 5.1.1. Based on what I've seen (or rather, not seen) on the forums, they work fine for most people.

Thank you for your input.... try googling imessage waiting for activation quickly... it's a good possibility only pre-paid customers are running into this issue, like with Telestra pre-paid philippines. From what I've seen, there are tons and tons of pages about this issue, all with tons of possible fixes, and absolutely no solutions.
