Home button doesnt work iPhone

When I press on the Home button, nothing happens. When I press on it a second time, it takes me to Favorites as if I had done a double-click on the Home button.
The phone still can send and receive calls, and can sync with my computer. I just cant get to my home screen.
The phone also doesnt power down. Holding the power button does nothing until I release it, after which it goes into a sleep mode.
Trying to reset the phone doesnt work. I pressed the power button and put a pin through the hole right next to the headphone jack. This doesnt seem to do anything at all.

The hole next to the headphone jack is for releasing the iPhones SIM card tray.
If a reset does not resolve it, have you also tried a restore with iTunes from your iPhones backup and as a new iPhone or not from your iPhones backup?
If no change after that, time to give AppleCare a call at (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.
