hard drive crashed iPhone

The sync operation in iTunes is pretty simple. iTunes is the host, iPhone is the destination. The destination is going to sync with anything on the host. Meaning, if its not on the host, it will remove on the destination. Your only hope is going to the iPhone as a device in My Computer, but my understanding is you can only view the photos that have been taken on the phone, not ones that are synced.

First, you should back-up all important info/music/pics to a DVD, external hard drive etc, as hard drives can and do fail.
Pics are synced one-way from computer to iphone and are optimized for viewing on iphone - meaning the quality is downgraded quite a bit.
You can e-mail the pics to yourself one by one, although they will not be nearly the original quality.

well...i do back up periodically...just not in the past month or so...but id like to recovery a large number of recent pictures...is there any software that will help?

Whenever i connect my iphone to my pc, Windows recognizes it as a camera, and i can import the photos from it as if it was a camera or scanner. Photoshop elements does it as well.
