The GPS on my Iphone 3G no longer works after sotfware update.
Applications like MotionX- GPS and 3GPS worked great before the 3GS and 3.0 was introduced now since the software update the apps cannot get a GPS fix.
Same for the map app that comes with the phone. The blue dot now longer moves smoothly with the map as I travel and is inaccurate just like it was with the old Iphone that relied only on cell triangulation for position.
Help? Is this a hardware or software problem?
Any fix for this?

Have you tried basics from the manual?
Reset
Restore

You could also try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off.

I have tried reset and airplane mode.
Havent done restore yet as it can be painful....

MotionX GPS worked great but not used in months. Recently downloaded TomTom but no GPS. Launched MotionX and no GPS signal found. I've:
Rebooted
Restored from backup
Restored to "New Phone"
WiFi on/off
Airplane on/off
nothing works.
Ideas?
