This isn't a dire situation, but on my computer I keep a playlist, yeah? And it has almost 8 GB of my music on there (I use it in case a backup doesn't work, etc) and around 1400 songs. On my phone, it has about the same number of songs, but says that they only take up 4.6 GB. Why is this? Did my phone not completely load the music, or is it just a different format?
Thats quite weird.. but if all the music is there then the format is just diffrent. if you have 320kb/s songs(which are relatively big in size 8-10mb) then the format is made simplet into 256 kb/s. Don't worry about it if you dont notice any songs missing.
Could it be that you have some videos on your computer, but not on the iPhone?
… or is it just a different format?
You can elect to store songs on the iPhone using a lesser bit rate, that might explain the discrepancy. The selection is under "options" when selecting your iPhone in iTunes.
