While trying to update my iphone 4 to the most recent software I got the above message. ...firmware file is not compatible. I do not know what that means or how to fix it. Please help! Thanks.

This often happens when iTunes is not up to date.  Try updating iTunes to the latest version, then try updating your phone again.
