ive heard the rumor since it isnt official yet that if you dont own a 2G iPhone from AT&T and that you own a different phone like me, Moto Q, and your contract isnt up yet you cant purchase a 3G iPhone.
Frankly thats bs.
2G iPhone owners havent even had there phone s for a year yet!
This isnt a big deal for me anymore since i went by AT&T yesterday and they told me theyd sell me an iPhone and just start a new contract, but i dont like seeing people canecel their contract then start again and waste all their money. it makes AT&T look bad too. AT&T has done everytihng ive asked for. My family has been with Cingular/AT&T for almost 9 years. Ive never had a dropped call and almost always have good service. This 3G iPhone can only bring good to AT&T, if they figure all of this upgrading/new customer/existing customer thing. Apple told us the prices too. $199 for black 8gig and $299 for black/white 16gig. Thats not changing. So i dont know why people are trying to.

well that make absolutely no sense
if i bought the phone subsidized, and part of my bill goes to pay for the phone, why did AT&T give me a $100 rebate? why didnt they just keep it? maybe it isnt subsidized. my contract wasnt up when i bought it. like i said i dropped my old iphone in water, and i wasnt buiying another one. its not really bothering me any though. im sure they will sell me one.

gray_bry,
Typically the subsidies are around $100/year of the contract (varies by a bit), plus from time to time they offer rebates on top of that.
Would you have bought the MotoQ if it was $200 more and didnt have a rebate?
If the answer is no, that is why they offer the subsidies and the rebates. It is so they have you as a customer.
Hope this helps,

gray_bry,
Well, it is $175 more to cancel your current contract if AT&T doesnt allow an upgrade.
So it works out about the same.
Hope this helps,
