Auto brightness not working after 2.2 software update iPhone 3G

It seems after the 2.2 software update (I just got tonight) the auto-brightness stopped working properly. Now with auto brightness on it just makes the screen a little brighter than whatever brightness setting you select. It doesnt auto adjust at all. Is anyone else seeing this problem?
iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5) white iphone 3G v2.2

It never worked in 2.0.2, or 2.1 so I doubt this is anything new, just something left unfixed.
Does fetch work?
Will WiFi connect to a route while the phone is downloading mail via Edge?
