When i was i south africa i tried to hold the antenna just to se if the signal would lose strength. And yes it went down, but when it came to 1 pin then it started do go up again and it went stronger then before. I tried it for 4 times in different places but I always got the same result. Wonder if anyone knows if apple have fixed something with the antenna or why does it work so good now? Is it a kind of boost or something?

As far as anyone other than Apple knows, the antenna (and all hardware for that matter) has not changed since launch.

in USA gsm is just one of the cell phone networks being used
most other places gsm is the only type so the coverich in those places is
often better so you dont get disconnected
and of cause he who display the signal strength decide what strength is shown

Consensus seems to be no change. I had a phone replaced under warrantee and couldnt remember if my previous phone had had 3 different black bands interrupting the stainless belt? So, I had suspicions of a change as well and thats what brought me here today.
Theres the famous, X marks the spot black bar on the lower left (as looking at the face) corner. Then, was there always one across the top and another near the lower right corner???
I guess that you meant a firmware change though so that it would apply to all previous iPhone4s?
Once upon a time, I saw a link to an app that would give the instantaneous signal strength (in -dB, a la blackberry), but I failed to follow up on it and couldnt find such an app when I looked...

The signal will drop but you shouldnt drop a call unless youre in a really fringe area. Data speed might dip but you have to be covering up most of the phone as well as covering the strip.
