Accelerometer issue since 3.0 upgrade iPhone 3G

Ever since I updated my iPhone 3G to the 3.0 software, my accelerometer refuses to work correctly much of the time. Frequently, when I turn my phone (to switch from portrait to landscape) my phone foes not change views. My phone has been stuck in portrait mode for hours now- and only switches if I bang my phone pretty hard against my fist.
Is there anything I can do to make my iPhone switch from portrait to landscape properly?

I would try a reset (not restart) and then a restore as new if the reset doesnt work.

If a restore as new didnt solve it, take it back to Apple... theres nothing else you can do.

I have noticed that this only happens in Mail and SMS now. Works fine in safari but the new additions of landscape for text and email dont work as well as what they used to prior to the update.
