Im a lifetime Windows users being lured over to Apple by the call of the 3G iPhone/MobileMe combination. Answers to the following questions would be much appreciated...
Im waffling between the 8 or 16GB model. How much actual storage on the iPhone is taken up by the applications/operating system etc and how much will be left for my own files? Anyone have a rough percentage estimate based on current iPhone models?
Since so much data can be stored on the Apple servers (er, I mean Clouds) using MobileMe, it sounds like there will be more actual storage room on the phone. If Im predominantly going to be using the iPhone for the MobileMe features and as an iPod (NO movie or video use), will the 8GB model be enough?
Will MobileMes Contact/Address feature offer the ability to print/export address lists or download them to Excel files? Will ALL the MobileMe features be available to Windows users or are there things that require use of a Mac?
Thanks for your help!!!

You can always rotate through games rather than store all of them on the phone.

True.
Personally I find syncing a pain in the arse due to the fact I have to go upstairs, get my dock, put the iPhone on it, wait an age for iTunes to open up, then sync. I prefer to shove everything on it in one go which is why Im going to opt for a 16gb this time around.
I thought 8gb would be plenty but I quickly ran out.

Matt... not to meddle... but why do you have to get the dock? Is it not near the computer... and if you can just use the USB cable you dont really need to get it right?
Ok, after eliminating that issue... maybe Im just spoiled... but how old is your computer that it takes iTunes forever to load? It takes me less than 5 sec in OS X and maybe 10 sec max in Vista and somewhere in between in XP.
For the record, I have a 4GB iPhone but always had plenty of space for the music ... I am upgrading to the 16GB just in case apps are huge and in case I need room to grow. Theres nothing wrong with room to grow but theres no way I can put 16GB of music on manage to enjoy it all throughout the day.

I charge my phone overnight in my bedroom, but my PC is in the living room. When I say dock I mean cable + dock - I keep the cable in my bedroom as that is where I charge my phone, so I can use it as an alarm in the mornings.
Couple of years old - 2GB ram, 3.4ghz single-core processor, so its not a stone age PC, but iTunes takes about 30 seconds to display on my screen after double clicking the icon. I have the most up to date version and have about 3,000 files loaded into it.

yeah, thats interesting... it shouldnt be that slow to load imho....
my wife doesnt experience this on my wifes 4 year old Dell P4 she uses at work with 768MB ram.
and i do the same thing you do with charging on my nightstand and using the alarm and then syncing at my desk, but its not a huge deal... i rarely ever sync honestly... with everything over-the-air now.
