the 3.0 update for iphone downloaded and popped into my 3G iphone with minimum fuss (nasty moments when it asked for unlock a couple of times etc... )
cut and paste great. 3G up and running. found my wireless straight away...
if i search my phone for an entry that i know is there (e.g. in calendar) it finds recent entry but not those going back in time???
does the spotlight take time to read all data -ie is it taking time to make a directory of contents?

I was in the process of agreeing with you but then tried something else. I just search for the word Birthday and it shows all of them for the coming year but not the last instances. I then created a new calendar item yesterday and Spotlight found it.

yes the spotlight search on the iphone finds calendar entries for the last 6 months or so but nothing before that nor does it find replicates with same entry?
is there a setting i should be changing?
