My iPhone 4S with the latest iOS 5.1.1 (and previous 5.1) will not properly type a "t" in portrait mode. All I can get are the neighboring "r" and " y" in either lowercase or uppercase. The only way I can get the "t" is to turn my finger to 90º and hit the field at the very top, which works only occasionally. I think it's a defect in the touch screen. Any app that allows landscape mode will permit "t" and any other character to be typed easily. Any suggestions?

Try a reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings
